The Minneapolis Plate Division of Olympic Steel has an immediate opening for a Purchasing Specialist - Buyer to manage the purchase order and work order responsibilities for outside processor orders.

Responsibilities
The Purchasing Specialist is responsible for working with outside vendors to quote processes not currently available in house, conducting placement and managing outside processing orders, and serving as the company contact for subcontractors/vendors. Additionally, the Purchasing Specialist will arrange for the transportation of material, record items received in CDS/ Anita and produce and maintain divisional reports for management. Other responsibilities include partnering with the Senior Purchasing Specialist on divisional projects, monitoring the use and consumption of aged inventory, quoting and negotiating division-wide purchases for non-steel items, tracking and benchmarking cost reductions, supplier delivery performance and ensuring movement of rejected material.

Minimum Qualifications

• Qualified candidates must have Bachelor’s degree in related field or three plus years experience in related purchasing function, preferably in the steel industry
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills
• Demonstrated leadership ability partnered with the ability to achieve business results
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Outstanding oral and written communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and email
• Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels in the company
• Blue print reading capability preferred
